Featuring the Tanunda Town Band, Valley Voices Choir and Barossa Pastors in a world premiere of music for brass band and choir by Barossa composer, Dr Shelley Spencer. The Pastors will tell the dramatic story of Martin Luther, a rebellious monk who triggered the Reformation 500 years ago. Music and visuals will further enhance the narration they share.
On October 31, 1517, a fuming Luther posted his thoughts, bringing a death sentence on his head. Despite his battles with the authorities and depression, Luther had the courage to persist with his life's calling and was the catalyst for both secular and sacred reforms, including the importance of music and education for everyone, and to encourage the clergy to marry. Luther was no saint and displayed many human weaknesses, but his Reformational insight that we are saved not through Good Works, by through faith alone, became a foundational concept for the emerging Lutheran Church. Ultimately, the reforms contributed to bringing the world out of the superstitious Medieval Period and into the Modern Age. This is a story of monasteries, knights, castles, kidnapping and romance. Sing along to some of Luther's hymns as you delve into the story of the Reformation.
