The Barossa Regional Gallery and the Barossa Council are excited to announce the re-launch of the Vintage Festival Art Prize for 2019 and invite all local, South Australian and beyond artists to apply.

The 2019 Art Prize encourages artists to create new works responding to the theme of PETRICHOR. Petrichor is the vivid smell of rain falling onto hot, dry ground. It is, more specifically, the name of an oil that is released from the earth prior to rain.

For a country that knows heat and drought, this smell brings replenishment, hope and promise. As with all smells, powerful memories and emotions are triggered. We are suddenly aware of our senses, our instincts, and possibly even our interconnectedness with the land and weather.

The artwork can be in any medium in both 2D and 3D format and there will be a first prize awarded and a people's choice award. Entries close 25th February, 2019.
